Chronology of changes to the High Resolution Ensemble Land Surface Prediction System (HRELPS)
Tuesday June 11, 2024
Upgrade to Version 1.2.0 of the High Resolution Ensemble Land Surface Prediction System (HRELPS) at the Canadian Meteorological Centre
On Tuesday June 11, 2024, starting with the 1200 UTC run, the Meteorological Service of Canada's Canadian Meteorological Centre (CMC) will upgrade the High Resolution Ensemble Land Surface Prediction System (HRELPS) to v1.2.0
Significant changes:
- Use of the SPS 6.2.1 Surface Prediction System, in which the wet-thermometer temperature-based approach to precipitation phase distribution improves precipitation phase estimates and snowpack simulations.
- Correction of summertime cold biases over North American lakes, particularly for lakes such as Winnipeg and Saint-Pierre.
A brief summary of the innovations included in this upgrade and their impact on performance can be found in this document.
